Here is a sneak preview of my 2011 Spring Collection. There is one bag completed - the Satchel called "Philomela's Nightingale". The focus of this line is the use of hand weaving to form the actual fabric that forms the bag, utilizing a simply constructed weaving board. All other fabrics used in construction of this line are made of silk. This technique is crucial in fulfilling my destiny with regards to my handbags. The flexibility and control in choosing the palate of colors, creating textures and painting the picture with fiber and beads, enables the ultimate in artistic expression. I am very excited to offer you "Philomela's Nightingale". The next more traditional style handbag - "Gold Rush" will be completed very soon. Fiber weaving is used to construct the purse flap, base and accents. Each bag following will be one-of-a-kind lovelies you may add to your collection of fabulous bags. Naturally, embellishment with gemstones, glass beads and other earth beauties add another dimension in this already dynamic accessory. Thank you for your interest. Debra

PHILOMELA'S NIGHTINGALE 13" high x 11" wide $465.00 This picture is painted with many fiber types and exotic yarns. It is the tale of Philomela - wronged by her sister's husband. Philomela dared to speak of his assault to all those who would listen or were in earshot. As the Greek myth goes, he eventually cut out her tongue to render her speechless. In retaliation, she wove a tapestry of clothing telling her story once again. According to Greek mythology, she was then transformed into a nightingale. Thus, the dedication to her plight.
Description: The front is an original picture/image hand woven with exotic multidimensional fibers. Philomela (the nightingale) is hand beaded under the blissful moon in full flight. Earth elements of Amethyst, blue quartz, fresh water pearls and Swarovski crystals adorn the weaving. The closure is a magnetic snap covered with a handmade dichroic glass button. The back is constructed of 100% gold metallic silk fabric. This satchel is fully lined with a very soft leopard designed fabric. There are three inner pockets. The 1.75" wide cross chest strap incorporates lengthwise woven vibrant fibers. Guaranteed one-of-a-kind by artist Debra Liddell. Accompanied with a Certification of Authenticity.
